Motif explorations

Using the keywords as prompts, I tried generating rapid sketch ideas relying on my perception and experience of the words.

The floral prints utilize symmetrical arrangements and contrasting backgrounds to explore dimensions and illusions within natural forms. On one side, darker backgrounds enhance the vivid hues and intricate details of the floral motifs, creating a striking visual contrast. The lighter, earth-toned backgrounds on the other side soften the overall effect, offering a more harmonious and serene feel. The repetition of floral shapes, combined with layered petals and subtle color gradients, generates a pulsating illusion of depth and movement, drawing viewers into an imaginative visual journey that inverts the familiar and reveals hidden dimensions.

Images to illusions

The photograph of my balcony door serves as the base image. Doors and entryways have frequently appeared in art that explores alternate realities. By transforming this everyday scene into an illusion print, I tried to evoke a sense of mystery and challenge viewers' perceptions of reality.

The repeat prints from the images serve to enhance the alternate reality theme, drawing the viewer into a visual journey where the boundaries between reality and illusion blur. The repeated motif of the door invites contemplation and curiosity, encouraging viewers to question what lies beyond each threshold and consider the infinite possibilities that doors and entryways symbolize in the realm of imagination.

By manipulating the orientation and alignment of the facial silhouettes, the print challenges the viewer's perception of foreground and background, making the familiar appear surreal. This technique aligns with the project's goal of transforming everyday scenes

The space is envisioned as a life-sized installation, allowing participants to physically enter and explore different spaces. This immersive structure utilizes windows as portals, enabling visitors to move between interconnected areas and experience a sense of transitioning through alternate dimensions. Each element—from the slanted roof to the intersecting planes—serves to blur the lines between the real and the surreal, inviting individuals to journey through a space that challenges and redefines their perceptions of reality. This interactive installation promises an engaging and mysterious experience, where the boundaries of traditional spatial understanding are continually questioned and expanded.
